The TICASS project inauguration

The inauguration of the TICASS project was held on the 8th of May at 3 P.M. Researchers from Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Republic of South Africa, and United Kingdom participated.

After the official welcome by the Rector of Academy of Art in Szczecin, Prof. Dariusz Dyczewski, and by Vice-Dean of Faculty of Painting and New Media, Prof. Danuta Dabrowska-Wojciechowska, there followed an essential meeting dedicated to theoretical framework, methodological approach, tools for empirical research, and ethical issues.

1.     Theoretical basis for the research in relation to philosophy of pragmatism (Charles Sanders Peirce, John Dewey, Richard Rorty), visual culture (William J. Thomas Mitchell), and ethics (Charles Taylor) was presented by Dr. Aleksandra Lukaszewicz Alcaraz from Academy of Art in Szczecin, Poland, TICASS Main Coordinator.

2.     Methodological basis of the research in relation to the foundations present in the project (especially to visual communication in perspectives proposed by Paul Martin Lestner, but also to George Gerbner’s theory of mass communication) was presented by Prof. Maria Czerepaniak-Walczak from the Association of Education, Science, and Culture, Poland.

3.     Presentation of proposed research tools:

-        Scheme of photos analysis according to Lester
-        Visual Document Analysis Card according to Gerbner
-        Visual Document Analysis Cards according to  H.D. Lasswell
by Dr. Sylwia Bakowska from the Association of Education, Science, and Culture, Poland.

4.     Presentation of templates of ethical forms by Dr. Aleksandra Lukaszewicz Alcaraz.

At the end of the meeting issues were discussed concerning the division into working groups and organizational ones, after which the researchers set off to work.
