Research objective

The main problem we address by the means of our research is that in educational programmes there is a lack of teaching students how to read and interpret visual communiques present in social spaces, which is indispensable for culturally developed and conscious communication on a global scale.

Present curricula dismiss the subject of visual literacy and consequently students are not taught how to interpret visual signs in social spaces and contexts, which is indispensable in the contemporary world.

Therefore, we have to realize the TICASS project to introduce visual literacy into educational programmes, and to contribute to economic and cultural development in Europe and in Africa. 

It is important to spread awareness of power relations in imaging in the public space, to allow students the possibility of efficient communication via intra- and intercultural dialogue, and to educate future teaching staff that will exert a considerable influence shaping society in Europe and Africa.
