The question is not what you look at, but what you see” (Thoreau). Visual communication in the public sphere from emancipatory perspective
The main topic of presentation is understanding why and how people are taking visual communications for granted in the public sphere. The centre of attention is the relation between the type of consciousness (in the meaning of Paulo Freire: intransitive, semi-transitive, and transitive) and the way of reading visual communications. Which type of consciousness lets/makes people see and understand fairness and justice, in literal and symbolic images? Instead of conclusions questions will be addressed regarding practices of education.
