TICASS researchers participated in the seminar on cultural context of perception and interpretation of images held by Prof. Francis Wokabi from Pwani University, entitled: "Visual Thinking in Learning as Applied in Philosophy with Children".

Prof. Wokabi argued that we can use images in the process of education of children in order to facilitate abstract thinking. He noticed that African culture is mostly based on orality and that not all the communities are familiar with visual expression, which are challenges to develop visual literacy within children.  Other challenges are complexity, uncertainty, dynamism, and diversity of contemporary visual communication. Using images in philosophical inquiry with children can help in their interaction with concepts and in the development of the ability not only to consume, but also to produce and creatively use images.

The presentation was followed by a long and interesting discussion.
